Simple Gifts

Season for Giving
Over the first couple weeks of December, our students gave audiences their gift of dance in several showcases at various venues. What an exciting time for students and families alike!

Waiting patiently with Ms. Krista to perform!
Whether this is the first performance for a child or not, the level of energy, nerves and excitement are the same. Prior to each performance, we have at least 12 little, giggly girls, waiting to get their hair fixed, with flowers pinned at the side. As they wait, none are able to stand still, running around like pin balls bouncing off the sides of the pinball machine. Two not-so-giggly boys are dressed like a couple handsome groomsmen ready for the wedding, nervous in their own rite, being very patient with the girls.
This term, a repertoire of four ballet dances and three tap dances was prepared from which to choose. Classes danced to Simple Gifts, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Canon in D, All Through the Night, We Got the Beat, Hit Me Up, or Jingle Bells.
After one performance, one little student was heard to say, That was fun! (I smiled.)
2011 Brings Expanded Horizons
We are very happy to be able to return to two schools for which we have previously taught Harold Oliver Elementary in the Centennial School District and Humboldt Elementary. We are able to do so because of our wonderful new instructors who are quickly becoming invaluable assets to our program.
We will also be able to add a new class in ballet at Peninsula Elementary to accommodate Level 1 and Level 2 students. Now that we are in our second year, it is important that we are able to provide classes for continuing students as well as new students who are anxious to start as beginners.
Celebrating Our First Year!
In November, we came together with family and friends in Portland and in Kansas City for a wonderful time of sharing about the work of The Aspire Project this first year. Many graciously gave to support the on-going need for ballet and tap shoes, dancewear and class materials. We thank everyone who attended, and are extremely grateful for each and every gift.

A Simple Gift Makes a Big Difference!
If you would like to partner with us to bring dance to those students whose families do not have the resources to pay for classes for their children, please consider a simple gift. No donation is too small! $5 buys a pair of tights, $12 a pair of ballet shoes. The Aspire Project is a tax-exempt nonprofit charity and all contributions are tax deductible. You may simply mail a check to The Aspire Project, P.O. Box 55601, Portland, OR 97238-5601. If you have questions, or would like to contact us, please email: contact.us@theaspireproject.org.
